My Hymen

Okay, I've always had questions about my Hymen, where it is and what it looks like.

I've had people tell me it's located deep inside and I've had people tell me it's located outside. Could someone please tell me what's right ? I always beleived it was located on the outside, partially obscuring the vagina - but not completely.

A few months ago I did some research about the Hymen when a male friend of mine told me about virgins bleeding. This was the very first time I had ever heard of such a thing, and it terrified me. (No, my parents didn't tell me about sex in detail like they should've...) When I found out that the hymen is broken during sex, bleeds, and causes pain.. well.. I didn't like the sound of that at all. So I tried breaking it myself, but I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing. lol.

When I exaimened myself for the first time, I noticed there was a fleshy peice of skin that poked out at me, sticking out between my pee hole and my vagina. Is THAT the hymen ? Because the more I have stretched my vagina and stuck my fingers in there, the smaller it has gotten.

Please someone clear this all up for me !

Thanks !

The hymen

The hymen is a fleshy, thin membrane, which partially closes the mouth (entrance) of the vagina. It has a central opening, which may be rounded or elongated. Usually a finger can be introduced through the opening without breaking the hymen. This opening is necessary in order to let out the menstrual flow from uterus.
